The Making it Real Board is an independent group comprising disabled individuals and carers. They work closely with Norfolk County Council and the NHS to co-produce initiatives that enhance community services. Like the Inclusive Norwich Partnership, the Board's mission is to improve accessibility across the region.

The Importance of Co-Production

The event hosted by the Making it Real Board provided a platform for partners and various disability organisations. They presented their work and highlighted the importance of co-producing with local residents. This collaboration is crucial for creating an inclusive environment.

The event was a resounding success, uniting numerous disability organisations. It allowed them to showcase their work, network, and celebrate their contributions to the community.

Several organisations were in attendance, including Deaf Connexions, Inclusive Norwich, Build, and the Norfolk Learning Disability Partnership. The public also showed great interest, making the event well-attended.

The event began with a speech from Martin Symons, the chair of the Making it Real Board. He was followed by comments from Councillor Alison Thomas and a speech from Councillor Tom Fitzpatrick. Their insights set the tone for the day, emphasising the importance of collaboration in improving accessibility.

Videos of the speeches will be uploaded onto the Making it Real Board's YouTube account, which can be found here.

Engaging the Community

At our stall, the Inclusive Norwich Partnership organised an interactive activity. We invited attendees to vote on the accessibility of key locations in the City of Norwich. This included popular spots like the Norwich Market, the bus station, and Castle Quarter, among others.

Attendees used coloured stars to indicate their opinions on accessibility. A green star represented complete accessibility, an orange star indicated that some adjustments were needed, and a red star signified that the location was completely inaccessible.

This activity was a valuable reminder of how diverse accessibility needs can be among residents. Co-production is a core value for the Inclusive Norwich Partnership, and this engagement highlighted the varying requirements of our community.

Looking Ahead: Future Changes in Norwich

As many changes are set to occur in Norwich over the coming years, it is essential to continue engaging with the public. We aim to develop a city that reflects and celebrates the diversity of its residents.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to the Making it Real Board for including us in this wonderful event. We look forward to participating again next year and continuing our mission to improve accessibility in Norwich.

Conclusion

The Making it Real Board Co-Production event was a powerful reminder of the importance of collaboration. By working together, we can create a more accessible and inclusive environment for everyone.

As we move forward, let us keep the spirit of co-production alive. Together, we can make a difference in our community.
