On Street Electric Vehicle Chargers

Inclusive Norwich met with the Electric Vehicle Infrastructure team at Norfolk County Council in late 2023 to give feedback from our members about the safety aspects of the install of On Street Charging Unit at a proposed 44 sites across Norwich.

We expressed concerns around charging units being sited on the pavement, the potential for these units to narrow the pavement width, the trip hazard of trailing cables, and other issues that could affect those of us who need unobstructed access to the pavement.

We were able to contribute feedback that helped decrease the number of install sites that could have a negative effect on the ability of people with disabilities to get out and about, or cause safety issues.

Image is a man holding a blind person's long cane, and a woman with a large yellow guide dog, standing in an autumn leaf strewn residential street next to a dummy unit of a Blink EV charger unit which is placed at the inner edge of the curb. There is not enough space for them to walk between the unit and the railing on the other side of the footway.
